It is thursday Midtown. Friday is almost here. I can feel it. Rain is in the forecast. Again, rain? Have we not had enough rain? At least I will not have to worry about watering the flowers. The weather forecast predicts cooler temps for this weekend as well. Sounds good to me.
Let me start by stating this is not turning into “Bike Diaries”. I’m only writing of my day to day activities. Some entries focus on events, while other entries focus on discounts or riding my bicycle or stuff to do in Midtown. So there you have it.
I ended yesterday with a bike ride on the Greenline. Hello Greenline. Wait. I have to get to the Greenline first. Okay, so let’s say for example I start at Central BBQ in Midtown. Okay, I head to Flicker St. Hello dog park.
From what I have heard, dog owners LOVE this park. I looked for the new skateboard park but do not see any construction yet. Bark ’em if ya got ’em. Headed down to the street with the railroad tracks near the dog park. I hear railroad crossing bells, but don’t think anything is amiss. Pull up to the railroad tracks and find a train. Stopped.
What ever happened to “Train Kept A Rollin’?” So I wait. Then I get frustrated. Okay, I head south to Central. Go UNDER the train tracks, then back north to Humes. By the time I get to the other side of the train tracks where I was waiting for the stopped train, it has taken me 10 minutes. Son of a ….. Make my way to Poplar. Cross over Poplar, notice that the pickup truck making a right turn at the corner does not see me at all. I have an invisible bike. WAIT for the truck to make the turn, then cross the street. Make my way to Republic Coffee. No time to stop. It is already 7:13 p.m. NOW I hit the Greenline. Pick up speed. There are more people using the Greenline this late at night than I expected. Make my way to Graham. Stop Graham!
Yes, Graham must be stopped. It is now almost 7:30 p.m. I have no blinky light or head light installed on the bike. (I do have an air pump, slime to seal any leak [attached under the seat] and tools to fix most problems attached to the frame). I DO have a blinky light, but no batteries. AND I have to fix that stubborn broken pedal. Yes the bike is 2 weeks old. Turn around and make my way back. Note to self, there is mucho glass shards on Tillman between Walnut Grove and Poplar, on the west side of the street. Making my way back to Flicker Street, my legs are tired. No train this time, but no juice left in the legs. Thinking about taking an alternate route to the Greenline next time. Get home. Final time 1 hour 5 minutes. Pretty tired but a good ride.
After getting home, my wife wants ice cream. Hello Yolo. The gelato fridge is in working order. Get some. It is good!
Strawberry Fields forever….
Did you get your Republic Coffee daily deal? I purchased 2. $7 for dinner for 2? Yup.
Speaking of Republic Coffee, check out this COOL car parked outside.
I Love Memphis Mural Launch Party is today 4-7 p.m. in the Cooper Young neighborhood. I plan to show up and take pictures, then maybe some BBQ Festival stuff.
More cool art from our friend. I forgot to post these.
Remember the Levitt Shell has a special PAID event Saturday 5/14/2011 at 7:00 p.m. Todd Snider & The Nervous Wrecks, Jimbo Mathus & The Tri-State Coalition & Alvin Youngblood Hart. Doubtful we will attend this event, BUT if you were at the Shell last year, Alvin Yougblood Hart played a GREAT show. Don’t miss him. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Kids 12 and under are FREE. Get your tickets here.
Alright. I am done. Get outside this weekend, the weather should be amazing.
See you on Bacon Friday!
