Hey Midtown, are you loving the weekend? I know I am. Where to start? How about bike ride number 1 with Cycle Memphis.

Cycle Memphis sponsored a bike ride last night beginning at Cooper Young at 8:20 p.m. I attended the first Cycle Memphis ride a few months ago. As I was waiting, I ran into a guy who was on the first ride. We talked for a while about riding, where we ride, flat tires, ect. Good talk.

If you were on the first ride, you remember the break neck return speed on the way back to Cooper Young. This time, the ride was nice and slow. We started out and someone from a bar yelled out at us as we passed by “Get on your bikes and ride!”. I doubt the average speed was more than 10 m.p.h. during the ride. Another GREAT plus was the way the organizers helped cyclists get through intersections easily, by holding traffic for us. Everyone stayed together for the most part. The ride took about 75 cyclists from Cooper Young to downtown, where we took a break in a park at 9:30 p.m. Just as we were going to make our way back to Cooper Young, someone had a flat tire. Ten minutes later the tire was fixed and we were ready to ride. Traffic was backed up downtown, and so it was stop and go traffic for a short while. Then we made our way to Tommy Lee Park and I am sure I was speeding along downhill at nearly 20 m.p.h. By the time we reached Fedex Forum, our group had TWO flat tires. We waited again as the tires were repaired. Again, the organizers had flat tires covered, with great volunteers helping to repair those deflated tires.

As I was riding by a cyclist, I thought I recognized the author of www.bikinginmemphis.com. I introduced myself to Doug who writes a great biking blog here in Memphis. The first thing I have to say, he is a great person to speak with. We chatted about bike lanes, the Midnight Bike Ride, and other things while riding back to Cooper Young. Ride with Cycle Memphis and meet some great people.

Over all the Cycle Memphis 3.0 ride was good. If you are worried about being new to biking, Cycle Memphis takes care of you. I really recommend riding on the next bike ride.

We woke up Sunday and made plans to meet with friends for brunch, BUT we decided to ride our bikes to Cafe Eclectic. Bike ride number 2. I made my way down Central, then over to Madison. I gathered a couple of friends and we made our way to Cafe Eclectic. The last time I made it to Cafe Eclectic was for the Iced Coffee Bike Tour. I didn’t have time to stop for lunch last time, but this time I was ready. Waffles… are… GREAT! Banana Monkey Jam? GREAT! I WILL be going back here for brunch again.

My waffles!

French Omelette

Awesome Monkey Jam

So we finished brunch, then I headed back with friends to Madison, via Overton Park. Three mile ride each way. Nice and easy. Try it people.

What’s next? How about some gambling in Tunica? This time we started at Hollywood Casino. About 3 minutes into playing quarter slots, I hit $100.00. Hmmm…. pretty good so far. I left the casino an hour later with over $60 in my pocket. The next casino was Sam’s Town. Within 5 minutes again, I hit $77 at the quarters slot machine. Sweet! So after two hours of gambling I left Tunica with more money than I brought with me. And what did I buy when I arrived home?

I love me some beer.

The weekend is nearly over, but it was a GREAT one. Get up off your couch, walk out the door, and enjoy life. See you tomorrow Midtown for more coffee, bikes and food. See below all the great things that are coming at you soon Midtown. Now… time for that beer!
