Thirsty Thursday Midtown. Drinks are on me.
Yes, we spent Christmas in New Orleans. In the French Quarter. It’s not the first time we have done so. Yes we go to the Big Easy at least once a year. And during this trip we decided to try a few new bars, restaurants and streets to see. Let the Mardi Gras begin!
After a seven hour car ride, we arrived in the French Quarter, staying at Hotel St. Marie. We have stayed at this hotel a few other times. The hotel is located just off Bourbon St. and Toulouse. Close enough to the action, but far enough away so as not to be disturbed.
Since we needed to eat dinner, we headed over to Mother’s near Harrah’s Casino.
Good choice. I love this place. I ordered the gumbo
while my wife ordered the shrimp poor boy.
Two could have shared that poor boy. Oink, oink. If you eat here for breakfast, try the crawfish omelette. Fantastic.
After eating at Mother’s, we headed to the casino where I promptly lost $20. Bye, bye money. Doh!
Next up was a stop at Finnegan’s Easy (717 Saint Peter St., between Bourbon and Royal). We usually stop in at this bar once a day while in town.
And yes, I usually have a Santo beer (not that I am from Texas or anything). We spoke to the bartender for a good while and listened to the music. Good place to people watch as well. Get a hurricane; they’re good.
What a welcome New Orleans. Check back in the following days for more New Orleans food, tips and drinks.
