Saturday Midtown. Have… some… fun!

The laptop is virus free. It is great to have it back to write with. My several thousand pictures? I’m not sure if they were restored or not. I will say the desktop on the laptop looks very clean.

What did I do today? First up coffee. I sat in the cool air at Republic Coffee and read the news. Finishing the news, I read more of my book “The Columbus Affair” by Steve Berry.

Good book. Over 42% finished. The book is on loan from the Memphis Public Library for FREE. Get your library card people. It’s free!

I had lunch with my wife (take out from Memphis Pizza Cafe). Then it was off to the airport. No, I’m not going anywhere, but my wife headed to Texas for a few days for a holiday. I have to work

At home I read more of “Isaac’s Storm“.

Great book. I’m nearing the part of the book when the hurricane strikes. Funny, in the early 1900′s, people would ride bikes to work and that was thought of as normal. If you ride your bike to work today, many people think of it as weird.

Next up was a trip to Raffe’s for beer. Discount beer. $4.50 for Saranac Pomegranate Wheat. Plus I picked up my glass I left on the counter from a few days ago. (Buy a six of Konig Ludwig Wheat for $4.99 and you get a free glass).

When I was leaving I found this:

The clerk asked the driver, “Have the police given you a ticket for not having doors on your car?” His reply, “Not in the last two weeks.” I know it is hot in Memphis, but you kinda need doors on your car.

Plans for tonight? Beer. Cold beer. Ahhh… I feel like Homer Simpson. “Beerrrrrrr……..”

Finally Friday Midtown. TGIF!

I spent last night battling a computer virus. 3 hours later I beat the virus. Now the problem is restoring files to the laptop. Back up your computer files! The last back up may have been over a year ago! Great. The back up is still on going. Wish me luck that I get my laptop up and running tomorrow.

Today I slipped into Republic Coffee wearing slacks. What? Yeah, usually I wear punk tshirts and shorts. No ride to work. Long work week and the heat has done me in.

Mulan Bistro Cooper Young was our dinner destination. Good as always.

Thirsty Thursday Midtown. You need coffee!

Warm morning at 7:20 a.m. Get on the bike and head out.

Yes I read my ebook. 30% of the book is finished.

The workday was HOT. I was working outside until noon.

Ride home? Really hot. 101 degrees to be exact. I did very well on the ride except mile marker 3.5. Slowed down. Another mile I slowed even more. Even cold water didn’t help.

When I arrived home I showered and changed and headed to the Levitt Shell. Great music tonight. You can’t beat Old School music.

Me? Beer and anti-virus software. Fun.

Waffle Wednesday Midtown. Get some. Cool temps this morning. 67 degrees to be exact. Loved it.

More morning book reading. I love reading my book early. Right now I have completed over 25% of the book.

Coffee done, I headed down the Greenline. Good morning ride.

Work was busy. Glad to have the day over. “Can I wear shorts on Thursday?” Since I will be outside for a few hours, working in the heat, I figure shorts will help.

Ride home? Good. Except near the end of the Greenline. At the Highland intersection I waited to cross the intersection. My light turned green and I crossed the intersection. And 1 car decided he didn’t have to stop on red. Uh… I’m right in front of you. STOP!

Shorter different post today. My wife was surfing the web this morning and that laptop caught a virus. I am currently using the IPod and WP app. The virus scan is currently at 66% completed. Just another hour to go…

Stopped by Raffes for beer. Hello Paulaner! Loving my beer.

Two for Tuesday Midtown.

Good day today. I began my day at Coffee Town, reading my book “The Columbus Affair” by Steve Berry. Yup. I skipped the news. When I left the coffee shop at 7:20 a.m., I had made my 5% goal for reading today.

Get on the bike, ride east. My ride to work was slightly slower, but okay. Yes, that was me singing Metallica tunes out loud along the Greenline.

Oh and by the way, a big thanks goes out to the lady in the SUV that failed to give me the right of way at Farm Road and Walnut Grove Rd. Yeah, don’t mind me and my bicycle. I am SURE your drive to work was way more important than my ride to work.

Busy work day. Glad when it was over.

I did see an interesting item featured by Lifehacker.com today. WeMo automates any electrical device in your home. The $50 device will let you plug-in your popcorn maker, fan, or light via an app and wifi connection. Yes, your electrical plug can now be connected to the internet. Via the app you can “Turn popcorn maker ON. Turn popcorn maker OFF.” For the life of me, I can’t think of ANYTHING to automate. Let’s hear it. What would YOU automate in YOUR home? Send ME your comments. I will post the best comments. A few more items today. Riding home this evening, the temperature was hot. 91 degree’s to be exact. (check out that big number 104!)

Today I tried out my Kelty Drifter for the first time after work.

My wife gave me the water system / back pack for Christmas. Here we go. I filled the water bag and placed the water in the fridge. Right before my ride, I pulled the water out of the fridge and placed it in the back pack. First stop bottom of Shelby Farms. I have to say the Drifter worked better than expected. I no longer have to stop, drink from my water bottle, then start again. The water tube has an easy open / closed valve. Plus the back pack keeps the water cooler than my water bottle. Love it.

The ride home went well until mile marker 5 along the Greenline. Yeah, I got “heavy bike” (a term that means your bicycle feels like it weighs 1000 pounds. Sort of like Heavy Metal). Premature acceleration? Yup. A guy passed me by at Podesta. “I’ll catch up! If it’s the last thing I do….” At mile marker 3 the cyclist in front of me slowed, and I made my move ahead of him. (“It’s not a race. It’s not a race.”) Good workout today.

When I arrived home, I found my order from Amazon.com had arrived. I now have a Flip Ultra Series Camcorder 60 minute version.

The cost? $50 used. Here come the bike videos. Can’t wait to try the camera out.

Manic Monday Midtown. What a day.

The day began with coffee. I usually read the news while drinking my coffee. Today I read my book “The Columbus Affair” by Steve Berry. My goal? To read 5% of the book daily. This plan can work. Wish me luck. The book is good, which makes my goal easier.

Time is up. Time to ride the Greenline to work. The morning ride worked out okay. My side basket contained a large bag full of clothes to last the work week. Since I had a party to attend at work, I carried two loaves of bread on my back bicycle rack. If you have ever juggled bread on the back of your bike, you know what my ride was like this morning. Ride, check bread, ride, check bread. This went on for 11.2 miles. Yes, I have a basket I could have put the bread in, but I was lazy this morning. It was much easier to worry about the bread for 50 minutes.

Arriving at work, I felt great and very happy. I’m not sure why I was so happy, but I was going with the good feelings.

Busy day at work, and it looks like another busy day Tuesday.

The temperature for the ride home? I checked.

100 degrees. Holy cow. That’s hot. The wind blew hot, dry heat into my face. I stopped at the bottom of Shelby Farms to drink water. I stopped in the middle of Shelby Farms to drink water. As I neared the start of the Greenline, I passed a father and son who stopped on the side of the path. When I arrived at the Greenline, I stopped to drink water. The father and son passed me by as I stopped for water. I paced the two for a while. By the time I reached Podesta, I could tell I was going to overtake the two. (“It’s not a race, it’s not a race…”) I passed the two up and didn’t see them again. The remaining ride was good. The last time I stopped for water, the heat had warmed my water a great deal. Hmmm… I do have a Camelbak. I may need to take the back pack / water system to work Tuesday.

Plans for tonight? Watermelon. Oh and beer. Do not forget the beer. I will see you tomorrow for more beers, bikes, and heat. Cheers.

How did I begin my day? Coffee. Hello Coffee Town. I was able to read my book “Isaac’s Storm” while watching the world slide by.

Next stop? Huey’s for a burger. We always order the “Madison” burger.

Fries and onion rings were added to our plates. A friend joined us for lunch. I was filled up.

Next up? I downloaded the “The Columbus Affair” by Steve Berry

from the Memphis Public Library. The best part? I would have purchased the book at some point, but this way I can read the book for FREE. I even downloaded the book to my Ipod and Kindle. That should take care of my free time for the next few weeks.

Speaking of books, there is a GREAT article in the NY Times about the French and their love of books. E-books suffer in France while they boom in the U.S. You can get discounted books in the U.S., but not in France. The many times I visited Paris, I would stop in at Shakespeare and Company book store. I would see many local people riding the subway buried in a book. Check out the article.

Next up? Welcome to the grill.

Steak, sausage, burgers, chicken and fish were all grilled to perfection. Love it!

For dessert? Fresh watermelon. Awesome.

Saturday Midtown. Love it.

I woke up early. 7:30 a.m. to be exact. To early for me. So I went back asleep. I woke again at 11:00 a.m. That’s more like it. First stop? Coffee Town. Waffle and coffee to wake up to.

Next stop? Haircut. Pam has cut my hair for 5 years now. And she is great. If you guys or gals need your hair taken care of, call for an appointment with Pam at Epic Salon (712 S. Mendenhall Rd). Make your appointment today; 901-818-5501.

I didn’t turn my t.v. on today. Instead I read a book. “Isaac’s Storm”. Yes, I have had this book for a very long time. I am STILL reading the book. Great book though.

Dinner tonight was at Las Delicias. I always get steak taco’s. Every time. Two filled me up with the chips and tea. Get your mexican food Midtown.

Finally Friday Midtown.

Friday couldn’t get here soon enough. I am beat.

I took my bicycle for a ride to work this morning. At the half way point along the Greenline, my Ipod shuffled to a great song “Blitzkrieg” (a song covered by Metallica). Time to increase my pace. Or what I like to call premature acceleration. The remainder of the ride went well. As I neared the end of my ride, I noticed a cyclist parked on the side of the road. His problem? Flat tire. His tires are smaller than mine. I do not have a spare that fits his tire. He said he had a flat tire the week before. Something is up with the tire. “Take your bike to a bike shop. Have Cort check it out for you.” And keep a spare with you. He said he knew better. I wished him luck and finished my ride.

Riding home this evening, it was HOT outside. Drink plenty of water. I stopped several times to drink water. A cyclist kept pace with me for a good part of the Greenline. We kept trading leader places when we stopped for a drink of water. At Graham, I decided to put some space between us and cranked up the speed. See ya. Good ride home.

Arriving home I grabbed a cold beer (Paulaner) and hit the shower. And it is time for more beer now.

Oh yeah, purchased my plane ticket for Texas. I will spend 3 days in the River City for a concert with old friends. Hello real tex-mex food. I can’t wait. 7 weeks until I leave. Round trip cost? $275. Not bad, especially for Memphis.

Thirsty Thursday Midtown. Coffee, it’s not just for breakfast anymore.

Quick post since I am starting late! Here is the FAST recap.

Coffee. Bike to work. Work outside for two hours. Hot. Bike back home after work.

Stop by Raffe’s for beer. And here is where things get interesting. Raffe’s has a special $5.99 EIGHT-pack cans Paulaner beer. Konig Ludwig is on sale for $4.99 for a six-pack. I purchased a CASE of beer today. “If you buy one more six-pack, I will throw in a FREE beer glass.” Okay, twist my arm. Oink-oink. I got beer. The counter person warned me the Paulaner will NOT last long. I believe her.

Next stop? Levitt Shell. The Irish music band Troen played tonight. The traditional stuff? Good. The modern stuff? Needs work. I love me some Irish music.

Yeah someone had this great basket. My basket? My old lunch box with Paulaner beer inside. But it was COLD.
